- - - - - - - - | Clark Vorhees Old Lyme Impressionist landscape painting Item # 3854 Click HERE to inquire about this item Clark Vorhees Old Lyme Impressionist landscape painting. This is a Vorhees masterpiece. Clark G Voorhees was born in 1871 and died in 1933. He was the first artist to discover Old Lyme in 1896 while on bicycle and he stayed at the Griswold House,Which Miss Florence Griswold had only just recently opened to boarders. He painted with many of the most famous Old Lyme Artists of the early 20th century. For a picture of Voorhees or more information on the artist see Connecticut and American Impressionism page 120,176, Miss Florence and The Artists of Old Lyme page 40,64, Who Was Who in American Art page 3424. This wonderful Voorhees painting has its original Newcomb Macklin Co frame which is signed on the back.The painting measures 36 inches wide by 27 and three quarters inches high and the original frame measures 45 inches wide by 37 and one half inches. The painting came from an Old Lyme Estate. It was originally purchased In a Madison Ave gallery in the 1960 period. Condition,there is 12 to 15 percent inpainting in the white sky area it has been relined. The restoration was done to Museum standards and could be reversed. The painting was stored for 25 years in a locker and suffered some paint loss but not in the detailed areas of the painting and the signature is original. This painting has not been on the market since the 1960's. The painting depicts a still quiet afternoon view of the Lyme hills with long vistas. Shades of white on green,mauve,lavender and pale gold,and dappled light. Vorhees paintings of this size are rare and near impossible to find.

This wrought iron "Easel" is very much the quality of work done by Samuel Yellin. Samuel Yellin made very similar iron ornamentation as the top of this wonderful easel. See page 49 of Samuel Yellin Metal worker by Jack Andrews page 49. This easel was made with the finest craftsmanship. Each section is pinned to the other. The letters are pinned as well. The adjustable arms are so well made one just moves them in any position and they stay to hold the heaviest of all paintings. The back adjustable arm works in the same manor. This easel was acquired from a very important New York City Estate. The easel measures 92 and one half inches high and 39 and one half inches across its base. The arms are six and one half inches deep. The letters are M and R. C1930. This is with out a doubt the best easel we have ever handled and any oil painting or work of art could be held or displayed on it.
