Fannie and her younger sister, Jennie, both artists, were born into Monroe, CT's most prominent family. Their father was a very successful farmer. Although the 2 sisters were 14 years apart, they were very close. They began drawing when children. Each attended and graduated from Mt Holyoke College and the Yale School of Fine Arts. After that, Fannie studied at the Art Students League in NYC. These accomplishments were very rare for a young woman in those days. List in Who Was Who in American Art by Peter Falk. Exhibition at the New Britain Museum of American Art New Britain CT. Catalogue of work produced by The Connecticut Gallery Inc. This painting was acquired directly from an heir to the estate. Image is 12.5" x 15.5"; frame is 15.75" x 18.75". One of a pair. Signed Burr on back and dated in pencil verso 1898.

Purchased in a gallery on the Cote d'Azur about 1963. Annotated and signed at the bottom. Approx. 5.25" x 5.5". Valued at 400-600 Euros in 2010 by Christie's, Paris. Segonzac (1884-1974) was a contemporary and friend of Picasso, the Fauvists, the Cubists, and the Dadaists, but his inspirations were Cezanne, Corot, Courbet, and Poussin. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He worked in Paris, but he loved Provence, and did some of his best work there. There is another work by the artist on the back.
