Dark muted red ground with a black swallow flying past a sapling trunk with leaves, highlighted in gold and silver maki-e lacquer, exquisitely painted. Mounted in ebonized hardwood frames under glass, with original mid 19th century paper backing and label. Label reads: E. D. Butler & Co / Paintings Etchings and Picture Frames / ?? Ave. New York. Panel 10.5 x 13; frame 12 x 14.5.

Charming autumn landscape oil painting on canvas over artist board by Jennie M Burr C 1900. B 1872 D 1961. Frame measures 15.5 x 19.5 inches. Excellent condition. Jennie was born into Monroe, CT's most prominent family. Her father was a very successful farmer. She attended and graduated from Mt Holyoke College and the Yale School of Fine Arts, and studied at the Art Students League in NYC. These accomplishments were very rare for a young woman in those days. Listed in Who Was Who in American Art by Peter Falk. Exhibition at the New Britain Museum of American Art New Britain CT. Catalogue of work produced by The Connecticut Gallery Inc. This painting was acquired directly from an heir to the estate.

Jonas dos Santos Early Man watercolor on paper. Signed and dated 1979. Jonas dos Santos is a performance artist, muralist, painter and sculptor whose work reflects his interest in social and cultural issues. He was born in Recife, Brazil, in 1947. He attended the Atelier de Artes Livres, Recife, and received his BA degree from the Escola de Arte, Recife, in 1968. From 1968 to 1972 he studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC. He is the co-founder of both the Uniao Visual Studies, Recife (1969), and The Bird and the Dirt, Inc, which began in Washington in 1971. Image measures 12.5 x 6.5; frame measures 13 x 18.5.

Fannie Burr (1858-1931) was born into Monroe, CT's most prominent family. Her father was a very successful farmer.
