The image itself, measures 19 and one half inches tall and is 15 inches wide.Manuel Robbe (1872-1936) (Born in Paris on December 16, 1872, he was descended from a northern French family from the town of Berthune. He studied painting and etching, and soon became an accomplished engraver, specializing in the medium of aquatint. He exhibited regularly at the Salons of the Societe des Artistes Fransais. Bicknell, painted in Stamford CT. Oil on canvas 24 x 30. Signed lower left. Title "An October Sunset" in pencil on stretcher. Condition is excellent, no inpainting, holes, or tears. This was Frank A. Bicknell's 1908 entry submission to the National Academy of Design, catalog #216. He believed this painting represented the best of his work. The scene is highlighted with luminous pinks, yellows and greens. Frank Bicknell was an important member of the Old Lyme, CT, art colony. He was born in 1866 in Augusta, ME, and died in 1943 in Essex, CT. His other addresses include Malden, MA, NYC, and Old Lyme, CT. He studied with his father, Albion H. Bicknell, and at Academie Julien, Paris. His memberships include ANA, Paris AAA, SC, NAC, Allied Am. Artists, NAD, SPNY, PAA and Chicago WC Soc.
