Her father was a very successful farmer. She attended and graduated from Mt Holyoke College and the Yale School of Fine Arts, and studied at the Art Students League in NYC. These accomplishments were very rare for a young woman in those days. Listed in Who Was Who in American Art by Peter Falk. Exhibition at the New Britain Museum of American Art New Britain CT. Fannie and Jennie Burr. 1872 to 1961 and 1858 to 1931. They were 2 of 5 children born into Monroe, CT's most prominent family. Their father was a very successful farmer. Although the 2 sisters were 14 years apart, they were close. The began to drawing when they were children, and later attended and graduated from the Yale School of Fine Arts. After that, Fannie studied at the Art Students League in NYC. These accomplishments were very rare for a young woman in those days. List in Who Was Who in American Art by Falk. - - | Sleeping cat by Tusguharo Leonard Foujita Item # 24 Click HERE to inquire about this item Sleeping cat byTsugoharu Foujita, aka Leonard Foujita, was born in Tokyo in 1886. He moved to Paris in 1913. Later on, he lived briefly in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Cuba, then returned to Tokyo during World War II. After the war, he returned to France for good, becoming a citizen in 1955. A true eccentric, he married 3 times. His friends included the artists Matisse, Modigliani, Leger, Braque, Picasso, and Rousseau, all of whom subtly influenced his distinct style. Foujita bridged the gap between Eastern and Western art with his quiet, dreamy style, executed in flowing lines and thin smooth layers of soft colors. He was celebrated in his day, receiving many medals and awards. He died of cancer in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1968
