Antique painting American William C.Frerichs Item # 873 Click HERE to inquire about this item "William Frerichs"artist, Oil on canvas,19th century by artist William C. A. Frerichs. Born in Gant, Belgium, in 1829. After completing his studies in Belguim with Van Hove, he came to New York. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1852. He began teaching in Greensboro, SC, in 1854, remainging there until 1863. He then became the director of an art school in Newark, NJ. Mr. Frerichs died in Tottenville (Staten Island), New York in 1905. Compiled from listiings in Benzit, Who Was Who in American Art, and Fieldings guide to American Painters. This painting was found in a church in southern CT, where it had hung for decades. It has been professionally cleaned and restored,and the frame is original.
