Joseph Jacinto Mora bronze sculpture of a colt signed on base. Excellent patina and condition. Born 1875 in Montevideo, Urguay. Died in Pebble Beach October 10, 1947. Measures 6 x 6 x 3 inches. Exhibited: NAD; PAFA; Alaska-Yukon Expo (Seattle), 1909; Bohemian Club, 1913, 1914; Vickery, Atkins, & Torrey (SF), 1913 (solo); Calif. Artists, Golden Gate Park Museum, 1915; PPIE, 1915 (member of Int'l Jury of Awards); SFAA, 1915-16; CPLH, 1929; Calif.-Pacific Int'l Expo (San Diego), 1935; GGIE, 1939; Smithsonian Inst., 1979 (solo); Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, retrospective which included sculpture and architectural adornments/1998. Member: Bohemian Club; Family Club (SF); National Sculpture Society; SFAA; Carmel AA; Carmel Arts & Crafts Club. Jo Mora was sculptor, painter, muralist, etcher, illustrator, cartoonist, map-maker, saddle-maker, photographer, author, actor, designer of everything from coins and book-plates to houses. Joseph and his artist brother Luis Mora (1874-1940) grew up being much influenced by the creative atmosphere of their father's studio. Joseph studied at the Pingry Academy in Elizabeth, New Jersey; the Art Students League with his father in New York City; and then in Boston at the Cowles Art School, and with William Merritt Chase

Pierre Mene bronze sculpture of a pointing retriever c1890. Measures 12.75" long x 5.5" wide x 6.5" high overall; base measures 12.25" long. Signed P. J. Mene on base. Excellent condition. Pierre Jules Mene (1810-1877) was born in Paris. Although he received minimal formal art education, he was the most successful and prolific animal sculptor of his time. He cast his own sculptures in his own foundries. He regularly exhibited at the annual Salon, and was awarded several medals. He also won first class medals at the 1855 and 1861 London Exhibitions.

French dog bronze sculpture c1880 depicting a boxer chained to a post, leaping and barking at an unseen passerby and knocking over its plate of bones and water bucket in the process. The chain is reticulated and the bucket handle is movable. Unsigned but charming and well sculpted. Measures 6.5" long x 3.25 wide x 5.5" high overall. Free standing.
