The French sculptor, Ernest Justin Ferrand, was born in 1846 and died in 1932. He studied under Levasseur and Moreau, and became a member of Artistes Francais in 1891. Ferrand never altered his style; he sculpted in the same romantic Belle Epoque style of his student days throughout his life. This 18 and one half inch bronze figure titled Le Commerce (meaning trade) is one of several allegorical works he did that were inspired by the theme of modern progress. Ferrand was quite a prolific artist
