Late Edo Early Japanese Meiji Wooden Shi shi with Cub

A half relief Japanese wooden carving of a karashishi and her cub. The female shi shi is shown with her right paw resting gently on the back of her cub. Fine detailing to the curly main and tail. Condition is very good a few very minor nicks as wood be expected for a piece that dates from the 1850 to 1860, the late Edo to very early Meiji period. The piece measures 16 and one quarter inches long by 6 and one quarter inches wide and 3 and one quarter inches thick.

Unsigned pair of Luke Gwilliam bronze sculptures of nude male torsos c1955 Luke Guilliam was born 1911 and died in 1989. Gwilliam joined the New York art scene in 1951 after graduating from Worchester Art Museum when he was forty years old. His paintings were very well received in the 1950 and 1960's,often mentioned in the New York Times exhibit reviews. He was included in museum exhibits at the River Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, the Society of Four Arts, and the Brooklyn Museum. This pair of bronzes each measure 14 and three quarter inches high.

Modern studio art burl wood vessel with inset granite collar and granite base. Smooth sculpted elliptical form. The top opening is 1 and one quarter inches across. The widest point of diameter is 11 and one half inches. Height is 6 and one half inches. Signed CJ number 728 8-98 on base.

Luke Gwilliam bronze sculpture of a nude man circa 1955. Signed bronze nude male figure by sculptor Luke Gwilliam. This bronze sculpture depicts a tall slim young man pulling off his tee shirt. He measures 16 and one half inches tall. The base measures 9 inches long by 5 and one quarter inches wide by 1 inch high, and is signed. Luke Guilliam was born in 1911 and died in 1989. Japanese burl wood root vessel marked Meiji 35th (1902), June 12th and signed with owners name Shinichiro Muto. This root vessel measures 10 inches high by 10 inches wide and deep. Excellent condition with original interior liner and shaped wood base. Great for Ikebana, flower arrangement.
