There are 9 images of this item.

A pair of Meiji period Japanese Imari jars, circa 1890 to 1910. They are hand painted porcelain. Imari is a port city, after which the porcelain produced in the surrounding area is named. Imari is typically cobalt blue, iron red, emerald green, and yellow designs on white porcelain. Green and yellow are not always used. There are usually painted medallions arranged against a background of tiny patterns, called diapering. The horses in the lamps' medallions are quite charming. Imari designs, like much of Japanese ceramics, were originally copied from the Chinese.
