Grediaga Antonio Kieff modern art abstract gilt bronze sculpture, number 6 of an edition of 9. Measures 14 inches high with a six inch square base. Kieff was born in 1936, in Madrid, Spain. His graceful, biomorphic style was influenced by the works of Arp and Brancusi. His childhood years were scarred by the horrors and violence of the Spanish Civil War, during which his father was imprisoned but eventually freed. Kieff showed artistic promise in school, studying architecture, piano, guitar, voice and drama. In 1967, he went to Vienna to further his studies, working for museums and antique dealers to support himself. He married there, but he and his wife emigrated to Montreal in 1969. He soon began exhibiting his work, there and in other cities, including Ottowa, Boston, Hamilton, New Brunswick, Houston, Philadelphia, Dallas, Detroit, New York, and London. In 1970, he had his first solo exhibition at Gallerie Moos in Montreal. In 1975, he built his own foundry in Beloeil (Quebec). In 1980, he created "Turning Point," a 96 foot hydraulic sculpture for the New York Art Expo.
