Jennie M. Burr charcoal portrait of a young man. Jennie M. Burr was born in 1872 and died in 1961. Signed lower right J. M. Burr Nov 26 1898, no 13. Drawing measures 10 x 15 inches, frame measures 15 x 20 inches. There is another unfinished drawing on the reverse. Excellent condition. Jennie was born into Monroe, CT's most prominent family. Her father was a very successful farmer. She attended and graduated from M.t Holyoke College and the Yale School of Fine Arts, and studied at the Art Students League in NYC. These accomplishments were very rare for a young woman in those days. Listed in Who Was Who in American Art by Peter Falk. Exhibition at the New Britain Museum of American Art, New Britain, CT. Catalogue of work produced by The Connecticut Gallery, Inc. This drawing was acquired directly from an heir to the estate.
