Nelson Augustus Moore oil on canvas painting of trees. Moore was born in 1824 and died in 1902 in Kensington, CT. The painting is in very good condition. It has been mounted in a new gold leaf frame appropriate to the period. The frame measures 12 by 13 and one half inches, the painting measures 6 and one quarter inches by 7 and three quarter inches. Carl Schmidt oil painting on canvas of boats in a harbor titled Ahoy Day. Measures 16 by 20 inches. Signed at lower right. Very good condition. Carl Schmidt was born in 1885 and died in 1969 in San Bernardino, CA. He was a member of Laguna Beach AA and Los Angeles AA. Please see Who Was Who in American Art, page 2926, for more information.
Oil on board by Italian artist Sergio Cirno Bissi (1902 to 1987) titled Minaret and Market. The frame measures 21 by 16 and one half inches and the painting measures 16 by 11 and one half inches. Originally sold by Simic New Renaissance Galleries of Carmel La Jolla Palm Desert Scottsdale, inventory number 8606. Born in Campagnia, Florence, Bissi was an artist for 50 years. He specialized in painting his native countrymen going about their daily lives, but also traveled around Europe and the Mediterranean. This scene is probably Algerian or Moroccan. His work is distinguished by his lightly dashed brushstrokes and high contrast saturated colors.
