People need appraisals for different reasons. They are needed for insurance, estate planning, and estate liquidation; you should have belongings appraised before selling them to a friend or a dealer or at a yard sale, so you know you're getting a fair price. Appraisals are useful prior to making a purchase in a shop or at auction or on ebay, so you know you're not paying too much. We have over 33 years of experience and over 8,000 volumes of research material in our library. Our professional network includes experts in every specialty. We keep abreast of auction results and market trends affecting antique values all over the world. We research all items to make sure no item of importance is overlooked, or misidentified. Many years ago, our research led to the rare and important discovery of a library table made by the Boston firm Erving and Casson. This table was an inauguration gift to President Abraham Lincoln from his cabinet. We donated it to the White House where it is displayed. We proudly hang our letter of thanks from First Lady Betty Ford and White House Curator Clement Conger in our office. We are able to appraise fine antiques and vintage period items, in any category, including but not limited to: American and European furniture from early Renaissance through Art Nouveau, fine art (watercolor and oil paintings, sculpture, prints), vintage and designer jewelry, American, English and Continental silver (especially Tiffany, Cartier and Georg Jensen) American, European and Asian ceramics (porcelain, china, ironstone, pottery), cloisonne, netsukes, blown and cut glass, toys, tin and glass plate photographs, marine/nautical items, and 20th century period furniture such as Art Deco, Arts & Crafts, and Mid-Century Modern. The following 20th century names may be of particular value: Stickley, Roycroft, Limbert, Frank Lloyd Wright, Nakashima, Eames, Herman Miller, Plycraft, Rookwood, Fulper, Grueby, Teco, and William Spratling.
