Antique set of 6 original Wallace Nutting Fan Back Windsor chairs with brace backs in the Colonial American Style from 1765-1780. See "The Windsor Style in America" by Charles Santore chapter 3 to see similar examples of these chairs. Very good condition with typical wear for age. Strong and comfortable. Each chair measures 40 inches high, 22 inches wide at top, 15 inches wide and deep and 17.5 inches to top of seat. Superb hand craftsmanship. Each chair has wonderful strong, bold turnings, wood pin construction, solid plank seats,fine long graceful spindles and retains the original paper label. Wallace Nutting furniture is extremely hard to come by especially and true set of six chairs. Wallace Nutting (November 17, 1861 – July 19, 1941) was a U.S. minister, photographer, artist, and antiquarian, who is most famous for his landscape photos of New England. He also was an accomplished author, lecturer, furniture maker, antiques expert and collector. His atmospheric photographs helped spur the Colonial Revival style.
