Karl Schmieg and Henri Kotzian met as apprentices to prominent furniture manufacturers in London and founded their partnership around 1908. They moved to New York City to establish a high-end custom cabinet-making workshop, eventually operating out of a prominent nine-story building at 521–523 East 72nd Street in Manhattan. Their custom pieces and interiors furnished high-profile clients, social elites, and major institutions across the United States, including the Waldorf Astoria and the Supreme Court of the United States. The stands measure 18.5 x 13.5 x 25 inches, 17.5 x 13 x 24 inches,15.5 x12 x23 inches and 13.5 x 11.5 x22.5 inches. Very good condition with flame mahogany inlays. Some wear marks commensurate with their age. Strong and sturdy. Retains its original brass plaque.
