Japanese Edo period negoro lacquer panel with swallow, early 18th century. Dark muted red ground with a black swallow flying past a sapling trunk with leaves, highlighted in gold and silver maki-e lacquer, exquisitely painted. Mounted in ebonized hardwood frames under glass, with original mid 19th century paper backing and label. Label reads: E. D. Butler & Co / Paintings Etchings and Picture Frames / ?? Ave. New York. Panel 10.5 x 13; frame 12 x 14.5.
