19th century American artist Fannie Burr oil on canvas profile portrait of a dark-haired woman, circa 1880. The frame measures 22 x 25.5 inches and the canvas measures 20 x 16 inches. Signed Burr on the back with an estate number. Fannie Burr (1858-1931) was born into Monroe, CT's most prominent family. Her father was a very successful farmer. She attended and graduated from Mt Holyoke College and the Yale School of Fine Arts, and studied at the Art Students League in NYC. These accomplishments were very rare for a young woman in those days. Listed in Who Was Who in American Art by Peter Falk. Exhibition at the New Britain Museum of American Art New Britain CT.
