The painting depicts Smythe holding a copy of The sporting Magazine November 1826 with his signature. Just in from a Lyme CT estate. Stoneware 2 gallon jug made by Nichols and Boynton, Burlington, VT. This is the stamp of Nichols and Boynton from 1854 to 1855 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 45). Good condition with a star imperfection shown in one of the detail images. Height 14 inches.

Early 18th century American wrought iron hearth shovel. Old repairs, double rat tail top. Early shovels are very hard to come by. This one was probably used in the fireplace of a large tavern. Measures 52.25" long and 9.5" wide.
