Willem Roelofs Dutch landscape painting. Oil on canvas, signed and dated 1859. The quiet scene depicts a woman walking beside a river with a small arched bridge and a house in the background. Roelofs was born in Amsterdam in 1822 and died in Antwerp in 1897. He studied with H Van de Zande Bakhuyzen at the Hague Academy in Brussels from 1847 to 1887. He came under the influence of the French painters of the Barbizon School, particularly Dabigny and Rousseau. Roelofs was known for his water and meadow scenes. Miniature romantic European Landscape oil on copper painting depicting two lovers near a stream, framed and signed lower left. c1900. This little painting is in excellent condition. The original frame has some small pieces missing in a couple of areas. The frame measures 7 and three quarter inches by 9 inches and the painting measures 3 and three quarters inches by 5 inches.
Pair of Antique Portraits Horace Bundy oil on canvas. This true matched pair of American Art portraits date from the mid 19th century in America and were painted by the well known artist Horace Bundy. The original frames measure 29 and one half inches by 34 and one half inches and each canvas measures 23 and one half inches by 28 and one half inches. Horace Bundy, portrait and landscape painter, born in 1814 in Hardwick, VT, died in 1883, Concord, NH. Worked as an itinerant artist in New Hampshire and Vermont during the 1840s and 1850s and was also a licensed Adventist preacher. Only 17 portraits done during this time are known and all were done in Springfield, VT or Claremont, NH. Oil on canvas, restored several years ago by an expert. The image of this antique Burr drawing measures 25 and one half inches high and is 21 inches wide. Fannie and Jennie Burr. 1872 to 1961 and 1858 to 1931. They were 2 of 5 children born into Monroe, CT's most prominent family. Their father was a very successful farmer. Although the 2 sisters were 14 years apart, they were close. Fannie began to draw as a child. She later attended and graduated from the Yale School of Fine Arts. After that, she studied at the Art Students League in NYC.
