Antique Maori mere pounmu greenstone pendant from New Zealand. Hand ground and polished pounamu (nephrite jade), commonly known as greenstone in the Pacific Islands. These were carried by Maori chiefs as weapons, symbols of authority, and marks of leadership (mana), and were created for the chiefly elite and passed down within families as heirlooms. Mint condition. Measures 9 in long by 2.5 in wide.
RARE! Antique Tibetan vest of wool and silk, appliqued with jade, coral, turquoise, amber, cowrie shells, brass and silver. Museum quality, circa 1860. Approximately 30 inches long and 15 inches wide. There is a fabric tear on the top left shoulder but it is held in place by the lining.
