Antique pair of matching Chinese chinoiserie rosewood arm chairs c1900. This true pair of Chinese Rosewood arm chairs are the most beautiful and well made of this design and period we have ever seen. The solid rosewood stock is strong and all the joints are mortised. The legs,frame and braces were all hand carved. The two back splats are hand painted and have a relief design depicting a man and a woman facing one another. Each chair measures 36 and one half inches to the top of its back,23 inches wide out side at the widest point,19 inches high to the seat,18 inches deep inside,20 and one half inches wide inside and 26 and one half inches to the top of their arms. Original hand needlepoint seats.

Wilhelm Kray oil on canvas painting, Venus Aphrodite. The canvas measures 62.5 inches high by 44.5 inches wide, and the frame measures 73.5 inches high by 55.5 inches wide. Wilhelm Kray was a French schooled German painter of portraits, landscapes, and historical and genre scenes. He was born in Berlin in 1828 and died in Munich in 1889. Kray started out as a silversmith, but ended up studying painting in Paris. After touring Italy and Austria, he settled in Bavaria and became a professor. His work hangs in the Museum of Cologne and the Museum of Gratz. This very painting "Venus Aphrodite" is listed in E. Benezit as having been sold on March 7, 1911 for 8500 francs. This exquisite, museum quality painting is in excellent condition and is mounted in an impressive carved wood gold leaf frame with nameplate.
